Continuing medical education (CME) consists of educational activities that are developed specifically for physicians or other medical professionals. These educational activities are often in the form of seminars or online trainings. The purpose of #CME for physicians, is to maintain competency as well as learn about emerging areas in the field. The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) is responsible for approving these educational activities and deciding the number of #CME credits the activity will be worth. Hospitals often require physicians to earn a certain number of #CME credits each year in order to maintain their credentials and see patients. In some states, physicians must earn a certain number of #CME credits each year in order to maintain one’s medical license.
